Voces Pulchrae is small and friendly choir of around 25-30 singers, based in Stockport, but drawing from around Greater Manchester, Cheshire and North Derbyshire. We rehearse once a week on Mondays from 7.50pm to 9.50pm.
We focus exclusively on Early Music, written and originally performed between the 12th and 17th centuries, covering both sacred music by composers such as Victoria, Lasso, Palestrina and Hildegard of Bingen, as well as secular works, for example by Byrd, Gibbons, Monteverdi and Josquin Des Prez. We enjoy exploring both familiar and lesser known repertoire. So far we've sung in English, Latin, German, French, Spanish, Italian and German!
Some of the choir are very experienced singers and some are newer to the early music genre. Our rehearsals are challenging, but friendly, fun and supportive as we often find ourselves getting to grips with music we haven't seen or heard before.
Our concerts also provide members of the choir with opportunities to perform in small ensembles or give solo performances, and we usually perform alongside, and somtimes jointly with, instrumentalists performing early music on period instruments, including a lutenist, viol concert and recorder consort.
If you sing with us, or come to one of our concerts, you'll definitely experience something a little different from the average choral repertoire. Why not give it a go?
